The genre, which is dominated by female authors, is known for romanticizing aggressive and sometimes non-consensual sex. The book is quite clearly marked as “yaoi.”įor those of you who might be unfamiliar with the term, “yaoi” is used to describe fiction that focuses on male homosexual romance marketed towards the ladies. He flicked through the title, only to discover it contained drawings of two garden-variety bishies engaging in “rather violent” sex. De Nevers realized something was amiss when he noticed the book’s “Parental Advisory” sticker. One Travis De Nevers has filed a complaint with the King County Library System (KCLS) after discovering his 10-year-old niece managed to check out a copy of an adults-only yaoi manga.ĭescribed as a “huge anime fan,” De Nevers’ niece borrowed a number of manga, including Makoto Tateno’s Hero Heel. The ending is so sweet it makes my teeth ache. The animation is also masterful, and the characters are loveable. It could be there for fanservice, but I thought it was a subtle hint. But, there's a literal scene that makes it look like they're about to kiss, only to fake you out. The two protagonists are heavily implied to have some sort of deeper feelings for each other, but of course, it is never expanded upon because well.that's how it goes around here, I guess. Biggest disappointment ever.įlip Flappers is pretty gay-coded too. You spend the entire anime thinking Sana is a lesbian jealous over the main heroine of the entire thing, but she actually is also in love with the MC. In terms of an anime that you should definitely avoid because it teases the fuck out of the audience with its queerbaiting is Mashiroiro Symphony. A lot of people can try and debate with me about that, but as a gay guy, I could see it quite clearly. Have you checked out NGE? Half of the male characters are gay / bi coded, especially Shinji. I'm not totally sure about this one, but Kashima in Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is coded as queer (gender nonconforming at the least) and her female classmates definitely have romantic/sexual feelings for her which she happily indulges.ĪAAAND special mention non-anime animation KORRA because the incredible revelation at the end of the Legend of Korra is so spectacularly gay She says something about how she'd love Sakaki even if she were male. Kaori from Azumanga Daioh is at least bisexual/pansexual (considering her feelings for Sakaki). She and Reiner have a conversation at one point in the manga that suggests that both are queer, or at least not attracted to the opposite sex. In Shingeki No Kyojin Ymir appears to have feelings for Christa. Wandering son is an amazing manga which deals with LGBT issues, most specifically the main character's gender identity, but to a strong degree lesbian relationships (without being especially yuri in genre). But Juri is pretty explicitly stated to be a lesbian, without it becoming any main part of the storyline. Utena & Anthy, obviously have a romantic relationship. Revolutionary Girl Utena has strong queer themes. Touya and Yukito/Yue's canon feelings for one another Tomoyo's unconditional, canon romantic love for Sakura Sakura's attraction to Mizuki-sensi & Syaoran's feelings for Yukito (though these are sort of written off)

Usagi and Minako's continued appreciation for Haruka's looks/charm after realizing she was a womanĬard Captor Sakura also has strongly suggestive content in terms of: Haruka/Michiru behind the scenes/super subtle romance
